The picture was taken while in London a couple of weeks ago. It was so beautiful with all the decorations everywhere.
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
I have to say Love Actually. It really grabs all the emotions.
2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Yes, several times! In Finland, it is almost expected to have a white Christmas. Myself, I am not such a winter person but I definitely prefer a white Christmas, it is so incredibly beautiful and it really lights the atmosphere.
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home with my family. We have spent two Christmases abroad, in Dubai. It was amazing and very different from what we are used to. I mean to replace the snow and the cold to the sun and a beach was quite fun but this year I am definitely looking forward to a Christmas back home.
4. What is your favorite Christmas song?
I am a little ashamed of admitting this but All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. It simply makes me so incredibly happy and I always feel a little urge to dance.
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
Yes, we open Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. I believe the most families in Finland do so. My family does not really have a tradition but we open them in the evening when the time is suitable.
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Rudolph is actually the only one I know…
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
As I mentioned in an earlier question we do not really have specific traditions. Perhaps the only thing is that every Christmas Eve morning my mother turns on the sauna and after a bath, we eat rice porridge for breakfast.
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Real – every time!
9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
How can I possibly choose? For breakfast – rice porridge! When it comes to the actually Christmas table I have always loved marinated salmon. When I was little I used to drool with the dog next to my parents when they were preparing the food – haha! Then, of course, there are the gingerbread cookies and the mulled wine. Something that is very specific for Finland is the desert called, Joulutähti, ‘The Christmas star’.
10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
Honestly, I love giving gifts. As a child, it was mostly about receiving but nowadays it quite the opposite. I actually love the planning and figuring out what the other person would like to receive. I always try to make each gift personal and suitable for them and I strive to buy a gift they actually can use. The best thing is to see the look on their faces when they open the gifts.
11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
I have received some amazing gifts over the years and it is really hard to pick one. I believe that the one I have had the most use of was the Louis Vuitton Agenda I received from my parents last year.
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
One day I would love to visit New York during the Holidays.
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
I am something in between, I guess?
14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
I have many memorable moments because the best Christmases were always those when my now deceased grandparents came to visit, it was definitely always the highlight of the day. We sat down at the Christmas table and enjoyed a lovely dinner and afterward we opened the presents and I always got to hand out them from a big brown sack. I can even recall the smell of the sack – it was the smell of Christmas for me.
15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
I have actually no idea. I remember being a little skeptical due to the fact that Santa each year looked quite different than the year before. Also, I remember one Christmas when my mother asked me if I wanted to help Santa and go to the store and pick out a present for me. That was probably the moment I realized that it was actually my parents who bought the presents. But I still like the idea of Santa Claus, I believe it brings so much joy in different ways for everyone.
16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I don’t think I have actually ever made a New Years resolution. Each year I think about it but I always end up not making any. I definitely love the idea of a fresh beginning, a new start but at the same time, I believe that we are capable of making that new, fresh start each and every day.
17. What makes the holidays special for you?
The time I spend together with my family – that is what matters the most to me.
Soon I will be flying back to Finland to visit my family. I can not wait to spend some quality time all together.
I wish you all a joyful and Merry Christmas! Lots of love!
