In May, we went on a spontaneous trip to the French Riviera my mother and I. This trip was life changing in many ways, but more about that later on.
One night I called my mother and told her that I had a week off work and suggested we’d do something fun together, take a long weekend somewhere. My mind was already set on the French riviera. Myself, I absolutely love the French culture, the language, the people, the art, and so on. (A couple of side notes here: Paris is my absolute favorite city in the entire world. It’s so beautiful. Besides, I have studied French for 5-6 years now and every trip to France is a perfect opportunity to practice my skills. J’adore!) Anyway, we booked flights to Nice and the hotel and soon we were off.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée, which I absolutely recommend if you are staying in Nice. The hotel is situated on the beautiful Promenade des Anglais, the main street by the Mediterranean Sea. The view from the hotel is absolutely breathtaking – clear blue water as far as the eye can see.
Monte Carlo, Monaco
We had planned to take a day trip to Monaco on our second day. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy as we had thought. You see, the public transportation was on a strike. Luckily there were a few trains departing that day, so we ended up in Monaco, Monte Carlo after all. The weekend we were there, was the weekend before the Grand Prix so every street was packed with hedges and other obstacles. Anyway, as we couldn’t walk around we spent our time enjoying ourselves at the Café de Paris, spent our money shopping and lost further money at the Casino.
That Céline bag there represents my shopping in Monaco. Can you guess what I bought?
The life-changing part
Short and sweet we had a lovely trip to the French riviera and I am already longing back. There is so much more for me to explore, places such as Cannes, St Tropez, Ezé etcetera.
You remember me mentioning that this was a life-changing trip, right? Until now it has sounded pretty much as an ordinary holiday hasn’t it? But the thing is we did not return home just me and my mother. There were three of us. Let me explain. On our way to the t
On our way to the train station on the second day, we passed a pet shop and in the window I saw her, the world’s cutest little Maltese puppy. Ever since I moved away from my parents, I have dreamt of a dog of my own and in particular a Maltese. At that point, we had to rush to the train station, but on our way back from Monaco we stopped by the shop once again. I think I lost the track of time when I admired her. The following day the weather changed and it started to rain. I suggested as we didn’t have anything to do, we might as well go back to the pet shop. We were leaving the following morning and I just knew I couldn’t leave her there. I had completely fallen for her. The breeder didn’t speak English so I gathered the courage to speak up in French. I explained that we were from Finland and that we were interested in buying but we were in fact, leaving the following morning. The breeder called the veterinary, and noted that all her papers were in order, it was only up to our airline. I called our airline and got the best possible customer service. Everything went very smoothly and the following day we were in fact on our way to Finland, not just me and my mother but also my very own baby girl, Chloé.
The best part was that we hadn’t told anyone about Chloé. My father was meeting us at the airport. He was so surprised! But the absolute best reaction was my boyfriend’s when he arrived at my place later that day. I had hidden Chloé at the time he rang the doorbell, but as he entered my apartment Chloé whined and exposed herself. My boyfriend dropped everything. You should have seen his face!
Chloé is absolutely the sweetest and most playful dog there is. You are going to meet her very soon, I promise. Meanwhile, you can follow her on Instagram @pawsofchloe.
